Sequent Energy Management and Pivotal Gas Storage join Southern Company Gas in donations to local nonprofits for Coronavirus response and relief

HOUSTON – April 10, 2020 – Sequent Energy Management announced today they will donate $100,000 to local relief organizations to support Houston-area communities impacted by the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). This donation is part of efforts led by its parent company, Southern Company Gas, to donate $2.5 million in funds across its footprint to help provide essential services and assistance during the pandemic crisis.

“We are committed to helping support the communities where we serve, work and live that may be impacted by this health crisis,” said Marshall Lang, Sequent Energy Management president. “We are proud to support such worthwhile relief organizations that are making a difference in our community and help protect its most vulnerable members.”

The $100,000 donation will be distributed to several local agencies including the Christus Foundation for HealthCare and Christus St. Mary’s Clinic which provides vital health care services to low-income patients in the Houston area. Funds will also be allocated to the Houston Food Bank Student Market program, a member of Feeding America, who partners with various Houston-based Independent School Districts to help provide meals for school-aged children. A donation will also be made to Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston which supports the Meal on Wheels program across the area.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic across the country, nonprofits have been experiencing a disruption in fundraising and decreased volunteer support. Sequent Energy Management is committed to investing in critical organizations throughout the Houston area and service territories, so they have the resources needed to continue operating at the highest levels and be able to service those in need.

For example, Sequent’ s donation to Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program ensures more than 4,400 homebound seniors and disabled adults across the greater Houston area continue to receive home-delivered lunch and dinners.

“We are so grateful to Sequent Energy Management for generously supporting our Meals on Wheels program during this critical time and serving one of the most vulnerable populations,” said Maria Magee, Interfaith Ministries chief development officer.

As part of the $100,000 donation, Pivotal Gas Storage’s Golden Triangle and Central Valley Gas Storage facilities in Texas and California, along with its Jefferson Island Storage & Hub Operations center in Louisiana, will also make a donation to support relief agencies in their respective service territories, as well. Funds will be distributed to the Southeast Texas Food Bank in Beaumont, Texas; the Colusa County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue team in Colusa, California; and the Saint Mary Magdalen Christian Service Center in Abbeville, Louisiana.

“During this trying time, it’s important that relief organizations have the necessary funding they need to assist our communities including food assistance and health care services,” said Tim Hermann, president of Pivotal Gas Storage. “Our donation and our continued partnerships are essential in efforts to help our community members address their needs and hardships caused by this pandemic.”

Dan Maher, Southeast Texas Food Bank president & CEO agrees, adding that the donation is another indication of the wonderful corporate spirit in Southeast Texas.
"The spirit of unity has to be even stronger in such challenging times, and we are grateful for the generous investment by Pivotal Gas Storage in making our community stronger at this time,” said Maher. “By supplying a truckload of produce for our community through this donation, it is addressing both hunger relief and good health, showing that it is not just a local company, but a resource full of local compassion."

In the coming days, Sequent will also introduce a new program where its employees will be encouraged to recommend a one-time donation, of their choosing, to a nonprofit organization within its service territories that is working to address the needs of those affected by COVID-19.
