Adopt-a-School Partner Turner Elementary

Sequent Energy continues to support its Adopt-a-School partner, Turner Elementary School in Houston, with financial and hands-on contributions. Sequent donated televisions to Turner for media rooms for faculty and students. The company also provided monitors for a computer lab, and Turner students come to company headquarters for monthly one-on-one tutoring sessions. A $20,000 grant from Sequent allows Turner to offer programs in music and fitness.

Working with the principal, Sequent plans to continue its support of Turner Elementary through volunteer activities such as tutoring students, stocking science kits and participating in the school’s urban garden.

On-site tutoring for Turner Elementary
About 25 Sequent and AGL Resources-Houston employees tutor students from Turner Elementary School in a program that brings the kids to Sequent headquarters in downtown Houston. The program provides dedicated tutors who give each child one-on-one attention for an hour each month. This year’s focus was on science in order to help students prepare for a state-mandated test. Not only do students enjoy an exciting field trip, but they also experience a real-world business environment.

Turner Elementary Principal Verlinda Higgins invited Sequent Energy employees to the school to help paint the hallways, which now look great with fresh coats of paint.
