Generosity of Spirit

AGL Resources fully supports and encourages both individual and corporate efforts to give back to the communities where we live and serve. Writing a check is nice but giving of time and effort reflects the spirit of the gift, not just the end result.

Sequent Support of Youth and Education
SSYE was implemented in 2005 by AGL Resources’Houston–based businesses to enhance local college student’s knowledge of the natural gas industry and to promote educational excellence throughout the Houston area.

This program has allowed Sequent to make significant donations of time and money throughout the year to worthy recipients (such as local universities & civic organizations serving our communities). We have had a significant number of volunteers from each of the businesses and will continue to expand our program in the comingyears with the help of local volunteers.

For further information about the program, please contact Benjamin Abramson at babramso@aglresources.com or 832-397-3731.

Bring your child to work day
Sequent sponsored its first “Bring your Son/Daughter to Work Day”on Friday, April 21, 2006.

Children of local employees were given a tour of the trading floor and played industry associated games, which allowed them to better understand their parent’s profession. Several volunteers from all facets of the business volunteered for the activity and a great success.

Challenging the next generation
The NYMEX Open Outcry Commodities Challenge was a competition simulating what happens on the NYMEX trading floor on Wall Street. The student’s role was to perform trades as a broker does on the NYMEX floor according to a given set of limit and market orders.

Judging was based on who executed their trades the best and completion of the order form with the least discrepancies. Judges inside and outside of the pit took note of who were the best traders with the least mistakes and best overall bids.

This year the competition went national for the first time including Columbia University, Rollins College, and Oklahoma State. The University of Houston took first place.

Adopt-a-school partner Turner Elementary
317 students, located in South Central Houston

Sequent provided monitors, helping create a fully-functioning computer lab for use by Turner students. Former Trading Floor televisions were donated to create media rooms available to all students.

A $20,000 grant allowed Turner to start-up a music and fitness program through the hire of a music teacher and physical education coordinator.

Working with the principal, Sequent is now making plans on how we can support Turner Elementary again this school year through volunteering time for tutoring, bringing supplies to help stock up student science kits, urban harvest garden, & monetary grants tocontinue to fund the music program.
